Head of Government of Mexico City Announces Over 2,000 Projects for 2026

Head of Government of Mexico City, Clara Brugada Molina, presented her 2026 program, which includes over 2,000 projects to improve the city's infrastructure, security, and social services. Investments will total 2 billion pesos, with a special focus on flood prevention and the water crisis.

Head of Government Clara Brugada Molina previewed part of her management program for the coming year and announced that the national capital will undertake over two thousand works across the city to improve social welfare, mobility, water infrastructure, security, and promote sports ahead of the World Cup. "It is very important that this be known and disseminated, how the governments of transformation have invested resources in works," she stated during a meeting she led with residents of Iztapalapa. From the El Paraíso neighborhood, the head of the capital's government informed that in the demarcation she governed before arriving at the Head of Government, two billion pesos will be invested, mainly in drainage works to prevent flooding during the rainy season. Likewise, she stated that progress will be made with 14 Utopies throughout the capital, seven houses of the 3R to redistribute household work, the expansion of two shelters for people with mobility issues, the rehabilitation of 120 markets, and the development of 300 Caminos de Mujeres Libres y Seguras (Free and Safe Women's Paths). Additionally, Brugada announced that progress will also be made on new Safe Roads—including one that will connect the Airport with Insurgentes—the Gran Tenochtitlan bike path, 34 kilometers long, on Calzada de Tlalpan; the construction of an elevated park between Chabacano and Tlaxcoaque; the rehabilitation of 12 underpasses; and the lighting of 42 kilometers of streets in the Historic Center. On the other hand, the head of government exposed that progress will be made with the modernization of the "La Ruta del Ajolote" Light Rail, from Taxqueña to Xochimilco; Line 14 of the Trolleybus "La Ruta de los Animales Silvestres," from Metro Universidad to Huipulco; the rehabilitation of two vehicular bridges of the Aztecas circuit; and the improvement of the three Transfer Centers (Cetram) Huipulco, Tasqueña, and Universidad. The coming year will be important for the capital's ruling party as it will be a pre-electoral period leading up to the 2027 midterm elections. Another point that the CDMX will address during 2026 will be the water crisis. As a result of this, Brugada is betting on a good year to strengthen the image of her administration and the electoral strength of Morena to maintain power towards the 2030 elections, where the former mayor of Iztapalapa will leave her functions in the national capital.
